Weedin Place

Weedin Place Public Space and Gateway Project

About the Project:

Weedin Place was identified within the neighborhood guidelines as a potential gateway location into our neighborhood from Greenlake. In 2014, SDOT granted permission for the cut-across street between NE 65th St and 8th Ave NE to be converted into a public space and gateway.

Work began on the conceptual design in 2014. Community brainstorming sessions, neighborhood meetings, and the Bull Moose Festival acquainted the neighbors with this project and solicited an abundance of feedback that has been considered in the work to date.

The Weedin Place Steering Committee has reviewed the neighbor feedback, latest concept, and budgetary restrictions to determine that additional concepts were needed to fit the requirements for the space. A call to artists was completed in 2015 and Chris Burnside was selected as the artist to implement his Roosevelt Glacier concept.

The Steering Committee is working with the Landscape Architects, SvR and Chris Burnside to complete conceptual drawings that will lead to phase 1 implementation by August 2016.
