Did you know that the Roosevelt neighborhood extends north all the way to Lake City Way? Well, if you didn’t, now you do! And that’s the part of the Roosevelt neighborhood where you’ll find The Shambles, an exceptional restaurant, bar, and steakhouse.
Each month, the Roosevelt Neighborhood Association recognizes an outstanding small business in our community, and in April, we’re highlighting The Shambles as the Business of the Month!
The Shambles opened in 2018, with a strong focus on fresh beef and pork. Becky Teipen bought the business in 2022 and has maintained its focus on high-quality steaks. However, The Shambles has so much more than just exceptional steaks. They have terrific cocktails; a cozy, congenial, and comfortable atmosphere; a varied and seasonally rotating menu; an inviting happy hour menu (4:00-5:00 every day); and enough delicious vegetarian items to please the vegetarian I share my life (and most of my dinners) with! Among their fine vegetarian options are the best potatoes I’ve ever eaten; they are both crispy and creamy, with just the right amount of seasoning to complement either a steak or a vegetarian dish.
Becky describes The Shambles as “great food in an unfussy environment.” I think that hits the nail on the head, with their laid-back atmosphere and excellent steaks (and other fare) that rival what one would find in many high-end (and pricier) restaurants. To boot, the servers and bartenders are friendly, laidback, and helpful.
Becky speaks glowingly of The Shambles’ cooks, servers, bartenders, and customers, saying they have “the greatest staff,” and that their “warm and friendly staff attract the best customers.” In my personal experience, I can attest that the customer base is very pleasant – both chill and lively.
Because The Shambles is a 21+ establishment, it’s perfect for a date night or for a friends’ night out. The unique, house-created cocktails and the comfortable atmosphere lend themselves to lively chatter or intimate conversation. They also have a cozy “lounge” room, if that’s the vibe you’re looking for. And, they have a new back patio, which looks very inviting. I can’t wait to try it once the temperatures call for an evening meal outside.
I’ve been to The Shambles about 10 times since they opened in 2018, and I’ve always left feeling great about the food and drink, the service, and the atmosphere. On a recent visit, I finally tried one of their steaks, and my esteem for the restaurant is even higher now!
The Shambles is located at 7777 15th Ave NE and is open seven days/week 4:00-9:00. They take reservations, which you can make on their website or by calling 206.659.0074. And while you’re online, check out their reviews on Google! I was already very interested in trying their hamburger one day, but after reading those reviews, I’m going to get one sooner rather than later!!
