February 27, 2026
Hello again! Always so much going on in Roosevelt!
Quick turnaround notice! If you are interested in being a member of the Seattle Renters’ Commission, March 2 is the deadline to submit your application. Please see the Department of Neighborhoods announcement here.
This is a combined February/March newsletter because on February 21 the RNA board held a retreat and we want to include the report on that here. This also gives us the opportunity to talk about the Neighborhood Priorities Survey and include our latest Business of the Month. What a feast! Read on!
The Big Roosevelt Neighborhood Survey
The results are in from the 2026 Roosevelt Neighborhood Priorities Survey and wow, do we have a lot to talk about! 74 of your neighbors weighed in on what makes Roosevelt great and the top issues we need to tackle together, and the results are encouraging and energizing. People love Roosevelt and there’s lots of opportunities to become even better! Local business health, housing, parks, and personal safety rose to the top as priority issues, and the RNA is already putting plans in motion to take action on these in 2026. From activating vacant storefronts, planning new public parks, envisioning events like Jazz in the Park, there’s a lot in the works, and we need many people just like YOU to help make these things happen. Read the full write-up, see how your feelings compare to your neighbors, and learn what is being planned and how you can be a part of directly creating a tangible impact on the issues you care about most! Click on the link to see it.
There’s still time to take the Survey. This will play a major role in helping focus our work in 2026 and beyond. Share your thoughts on transportation, green space, festivals, safety, and more! No matter your age or background, whether you’re a long-time resident, new to the area, or just visit Roosevelt regularly, your perspective is valuable. The survey is quick – less than 10 minutes – and will ensure your voice is heard in shaping RNA’s work to create a more vibrant Roosevelt.

The Roosevelt Neighborhood Association Board Retreat
On February 21, the RNA board met for an afternoon to discuss our priorities, passions, and plans for 2026 and beyond. We will be producing a more thorough report of our findings at some point, but here’s a high level summary:
We are all passionate about our neighborhood, otherwise we would not be devoting our time and energy to making it better. We see not only the wonderful place it once was and the vital neighborhood it is becoming, but the fantastic place it is now for all of us to work, play, eat, travel through, live, and visit for necessary services.
There are dozens of projects we could take on to improve Roosevelt, both in the short and the long term, but, alas, we have limited resources, in particular those of time, money, energy, and political capital, so we must be wise in how we deploy those. The major reason we are doing the survey mentioned at the top of this newsletter is to find out from you how best to do that. While we love to theorize about and contemplate the more esoteric aspects of neighborhood activism and urbanism, our primary focus is actually doing things that make Roosevelt better.
At our retreat, we identified several broad categories of projects we might want to undertake.
- Community engagement (that’s you!) through events and also opportunities to help decided on, plan, and carry out these ideas.
- Support for small businesses, including neighborhood events to increase foot traffic and encourage people to patronize them. Security and safety for these businesses is also a major concern.
- Beautification, including public art, street lighting, litter pickup, graffiti abatement, and other initiatives.
- Open, green spaces: advocating for construction of the park on the land designated for that purpose at 66th and 14th, for improvements at Froula Park, for year-round bathroom access at Cowen Park, and the possibility of reclaiming some of the green space around the reservoir.
- Fundraising and membership initiatives, to make our work more effective.
- Activation and beautification of empty storefronts.
- Pedestrian, bicycle, and traffic safety. Identify and advocate for necessary changes, including speed humps, signage, and traffic cameras.
If any of these are of interest to you (or anything else, for that matter), please let us know! You can contact the RNA at contact@rooseveltseattle.org or, better yet, come join us at our monthly meeting. We would love to see you. We are excited about the future of Roosevelt and hope you are, too.
Business of the Month-Salvatore
Since 1988, Salvatore Anania has been feeding Roosevelt — and getting to know the people who walk through his door. His Italian recipes are rooted in his southern Italian hometown, and his regulars now bring their grandchildren. Some things are worth discovering for yourself. See the full article here!
