In May 2025, after 19 years in the cosmetology and barbering industry, Virginia Joy Siler took the leap to open JoyCuts hair salon and barbershop. She describes the business as an extension of her values and professional passion:
I decided to pursue hair styling because I have always enjoyed helping people feel confident and express themselves. What began as an interest in hair quickly became a passion for connecting with people and making a positive impact in their lives.
Throughout my career, I worked in a variety of salon and barbershop environments and took something valuable from each experience. I learned what made clients feel welcome, respected, and cared for, and I wanted to bring those qualities together in one place.
As a US Army veteran, service has always been an important part of who I am. Opening JoyCuts gave me the opportunity to continue serving people in a different way while giving back to the community that has supported me throughout my career.
JoyCuts’ offerings include:
- Haircuts for men, women, and children
- Color services, including creative and vivid colors
- Color corrections
- Beard and facial hair grooming
- A variety of customized hair services
Every appointment at JoyCuts begins with a careful discussion of the client’s needs and expectations before beginning any service. Extra time is built in for consultation, thoughtful planning, and attention to detail so that every client receives the quality service and care they deserve. Virginia also takes pride in educating clients on proper hair care so they can maintain healthy hair between visits.
JoyCuts is off to a great start: they were awarded “Top 3 Barbershops in Ravenna/Roosevelt in 2025” and “Nextdoor Neighborhood Fave 2025.” In Virginia’s opinion, the most rewarding part of the job has been building strong relationships with her clients and the neighborhood.
A personal note: I have a difficult head of hair, filled with cowlicks, that has baffled many barbers over the years. When I had my first appointment at JoyCuts, Virginia immediately put me at ease, and we had a detailed conversation about what I wanted from my hairstyle. I left feeling great and with the best haircut of my life! Now my wife and I both swear by JoyCuts.
